Discover the story behind one of the most important companies of plastic injection molding in Quebec – An involved company, concerned about customer satisfaction and well being of the employees.
In 1986, searching for new investment projects, Pierre, Guy and Robert Belleville, brothers and shareholders at Bell-Gaz Ltd, a propane gas distribution company, start Plastiques G.P.R. Inc. (Guy, Pierre et Robert). The idea was from Pierre – without any experience in the plastic industry – entrepreneur at heart, visionary and driven by a taste of challenge.
In the spring of 1986, Pierre purchased three injection molding machines and stored them pending the construction of a 5 000 ft2 plant. In September of that year, he started the factory by hiring a foreman with experience in injection molding.
We now have a factory, machines and a key person to operate the plant. Only customers are missing! , he said.
IPEX, a well-known company in the industry, gives GPR their first contract.
In 1990, after 4 years of existence, GPR went from three injection molding machines to six and the plant grew from 5 000 ft2 to 15 000 ft2. The same year, Pierre becomes the sole owner of the company. Dany, his daughter with a degree in administration, accompanies her father in this adventure while his son, Gino, is heading for a mold fabrication course and joins GPR by the completion of his studies.
In 1994, the plant is now 30 000 ft2 and goes from six injection molding machines to twelve. The same year, Dany and Gino became shareholders, and they took over from their father in 1998, when he retired.
In a strategic mindset, the team chooses to buy only new and state-of-the-art machinery. In height years, from 1990 to 1998, the plant was expanded no less than eighteen times in order to meet the growing demand.
By 2000, the company owns twenty new injection molding machines, going from 40 to 1500 tons. The same year, GPR participated in a social integration program and hired five people with intellectual disabilities. This project has grown over the years and today there is a permanent work platform bringing together a dozen workers.
In 2001, GPR lives a major change with a 50 000 ft2 expansion and the acquisition of many new machines.
In 2010, GPR proceeds to another 30 000 ft2 expansion and the administrative center is relocated. In 2013, they acquire a line of proprietary products.
Today, with its fleet of several dozen injection molding machines, GPR is one of the largest plastic injection molding companies in Quebec.
